So to continue where we left off, my friend Tarun and I were facing a dark road with no sight of civilization around us, no money and our destination being six to seven miles0 away from us. Caught up? Good, let's continue. Our main fear was obviously us getting mugged or killed and trust me, with the reputation this place had, we weren't overreacting. We continue down this dark road when we find our first little anomaly. At first we simply notice benches facing walls, so we write it off as we had bigger things to worry about. As we go on, we find out that on the other side of the wall was a temple which would be fine i guess, and in Orissa, things are a little old fashion. But then we realize it's either a temple or a bar. Yes, people came to worship god, but if he failed to answer, then why not drink your troubles away right? Well hey, it makes sense because the temple was full of lights flashing around everywhere. But at this point we realized we need to walk faster. As we continue down this sad excuse for a road, we see a bunch of parked autos. Hoping to get a lift, we approach them only to have them acknowledge us by drunkenly pointing at us and yelling. So we did what anyone would do. We ran away.
After we lose sight of that, we managed to find another row of parked autos, but this time all the drivers were asleep and the autos had their covers pulled down. Now to those of you who do not know, an auto is a small vehicle about the size of a golf cart but with only a single seat in the front for the driver, and the passenger seat at the back that could fit around three or four people. So now we come to the weird part where a man gets out of the auto followed by a woman with a baby and a teenage girl with three other kids and they simply walk down a path on the side of the road without turning back. Okay sure cuz why not... So we keep going and we've been walking for about two hours. We're tired, annoyed, very lost and still worried of getting murdered. We see the first real thing that scared us, which was a big fat man his stomach the shaped as a globe who came out of a forest, his stomach jutting out of wife beater as he imply watched us walk past him breathing slowly, never moving from that spot. After we cross him, he simply slides back into the forest and of course, we ran away again. After we were nice and far away from that chap, we had to keep our phones some where. We didn't have any pockets, so we had only one choice which at THAT time, seemed to make sense. We hid them in our underwear. Needless to say, we were only half way through and still had a long way to go. And I needed to buy a lot of disinfectants and sanitizers for our journey to come.
